By chance, I came across some photographs of Dushanbe from the 1960s. I decided to walk around the same places and take photos from the same angles, if possible. I thought that many people, especially those who have left Tajikistan for various reasons, would find this interesting. I remember myself searching for photos of Dushanbe online when I was in Russia - everything was interesting to see what it looks like now.
So, here is the first pair: the former Agricultural Institute, now the Tajik Agricultural University. In those days, the trees were small, and the institute building was clearly visible. Now, everything is overgrown, and from this angle, the building is more guessed than seen.
Further, the hostel on the North, opposite the trolleybus park, is now the faculty of agribusiness, agrarian university, if I am not mistaken.
And here is what the medical institute looked like in 1963 and, accordingly, in 2015. The only thing I did not understand was where this ancient photographer was filming from. Offhand, I can offer two options, either here the building stood, which was demolished, or it was 10 meters tall... :)
Tajikpotrebsoyuz on Lenin Street, and now, judging by the big golden letters Ittifoki Tojikmatlubot, whatever that means. As far as I understand, they are in charge of all markets in the city, at least food.
Cinema "March 8", now, the cinema "Javonon 3D", which became the first cinema of this format in the city of Dushanbe.
Here is an interesting photo, at first I thought that it was a chinar, which costs a little higher, but no, comparing the position of the building and the iron pillars, it becomes clear that this chinar was most likely cut down. Crossing to the other side, stop, obviously were earlier, a little in other places.
But, there are constant things in our world, for example, the Sporttovary store is all there.
Here I can not vouch for the accuracy of the place, the old photo shows what a narrow street was here. Now, to take off had to go on the roadway. Yes, in those days this building was occupied by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, now the President’s palace, but they built a new one ... well, in general, the government is right here.
The same building, from a different angle ...
The first photo shows Lenin Street, the famous Bulls store, the modern photo shows the no less famous Plasma store, Rudaki Avenue.
The intersection near the Central Department Store, when there was no underground passage, and aunts from carts sold soda.
Lenin Avenue, opposite the central park, was apparently removed from the three-story building that stood here. Now there is a construction site in its place, I did not meddle there, everything is visible to me, the same place, only the height angle is a little different.
Fountains in the central park, now you can only show the place where they were. In the modern landscape - these fountains apparently did not fit.
City Executive Committee on the street Lenin, now the mayor’s office or ... something I didn’t even bother to find out how the building is now called, but the fact, the Mayor of Dushanbe directs it from here.
Council of Ministers of the Tajik SSR, photo 1971. In the photo of 2015, there are no trees, but they are, the fact is that exactly between these trees there are large boxes, as I understand it to control a large monitor, which is nearby. Accordingly, I had to remove from these boxes and the trees did not fall into the frame.
The main post office on Lenin Square, although there is nothing like this, since they demolished it recently. It will be interesting when the new building is built, then we will re-shoot again.
Lenin Square in the 70s, here they filmed with Jami either from the roof or from the 2nd floor, but I'm from below. Yes, an interesting detail, it turns out that Lenin was standing farther, I think about 10 meters ahead, and I, why she always thought that Somoni was put in the same place.
And, of course, the Jami movie theater itself.
Central alley on Lenin Avenue. The trees are still very young. In fact, the place where they filmed before is not entirely clear. Therefore, in our time, any place will do, so to speak, I took off at the very beginning of the alley.
The Council of Ministers, on the other hand, is a photograph of 1964.
Writers House on the street Putovsky, now this street is renamed Ismoil Somoni Avenue, the famous panel looks just as good, it is maintained in good condition, that is, tinted, repaired if necessary.
Further, the hotel "Tajikistan", it was greatly remade - it looks completely different. I didn’t go inside, but I think everything is there too.
Now now we are back on the route, in the sense of Lenin. Here it is interesting. You can’t tell at once about the photo, but this is definitely one place - in the old photo, winter of 1960, a monument to Stalin in front of the Cinema named after Gorky, which later housed the Philharmonic, and now Safina. If you look closely at the trees you can see the building with a jewelry store on the ground floor, now there is a Public Pub. In a modern photo, the main place is occupied by the business center "Dushanbe Plaza"
I remember such stands with newspapers, straight homemade Internet, all this business was at the print house.
The year 1957 was the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, a monument to Stalin, in those days it was literally everywhere, and the city was Stalinabad. Now there is the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and a monument to Academician Bobojan Gafurov.
Old trees in the square near the opera, there is a feeling that the tree has not changed much.
This statue is nowhere to be seen.
But the pool is small, though I think that it is different in the sense of redone.
This square, which to the left of the opera and ballet theater, couldn’t be shot right from the same place, now there’s a cafe, but still the same place is somewhere closer.
And of course the fountain itself, after it was repaired last year, looks very superb ... And then the old fountain, and even with the pubs around, looked depressing.
Another photo of the opera and ballet theater.
Hotel "Vakhsh".
Here is a picture from the Vakhsh Hotel in 1959, I was shooting straight from the road, the direction is the same.
The cinema "Vatan", now inside the New ERA Dance Fitness Studio, the entrance is true from the other side. Well, the building will probably be demolished soon, since some complex is being built nearby.
The Dushanbe hotel under construction in 1964, in 2015 it is the Poytaht guest house. Guest House??...
Shop "Wave", on the annotation to the photo was written when the trees were small. Unfortunately, in the photo of 2015 they are not again, because they cut down to widen the road, well, I mean at the store, while on this side are still standing.
The photo inside the Volna store is the same place, but the proposed technique is different ...
The old building of the Bus Station, which later became the Aeroflot ticket office, is now not at all clear, since there are 50 of these air ticket offices throughout the green area scattered around.
That's all for now ...
I wish you all the best and see you again on the pages of my blog.
