Journey of Journeys

Journey of Journeys
Travel, it can be said without exaggeration, is one of the most interesting, exciting, and perhaps beloved pastimes of a person. Even Mark Twain once remarked, 'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.' Travel comes in many forms, from a picnic in a nearby park to the great outdoors just outside the city, to far-off lands and extreme adventures. But I am not writing about them.

The title of this post stuck with me after seeing an advertisement for travel to Israel, where the slogan was 'Journey of journeys.' I am not here to endorse that advertisement or urge you to travel there, as in my humble opinion, the true journey of journeys is something else entirely. Specifically, it is your own path, wherever your heart leads you, and that can be anything, including travel.

As we grow and mature, we accumulate a certain set of priorities and goals that we consider our own. Most of these goals are imposed by upbringing, society, and our own natural needs. People think that their dream is a big house, lots of money, family, children... but all of this belongs more to the category of basic instincts like food, sleep, reproduction, and entertainment. Of course, for a large number of people, all their thoughts and dreams are focused only on these things. How can we not recall Juvenal and his expression about the modern aspirations of the Roman people - 'bread and circuses'? There is also a modern version from Andrey Knyshov - 'Feasts and Laughter'.

In other words, it turns out that dreams are about material things. I'm not saying that this is bad, it's just a given, but it shouldn't be a dream. Your body may strive for these things, dictating its needs to your mind, but your soul may be striving for something else entirely. And when your mind and soul are directed towards the same goal, that is what your heart wants. And the most interesting thing is that by following what your heart wants, you will eventually get material benefits, among other things.

Look at the billionaires who became rich practically from scratch just by doing what they wanted. Gates, Jobs, Zuckerberg, and these are just the brightest representatives, and there are millions of such people in different countries around the world, they are just not all billionaires and therefore do not make it to the tabloids. And luck has nothing to do with it, like everyone else, they went through periods of failure, and as usual, no one believed in their ideas at first, but they did not give up and went their own way and achieved something incredible, from the point of view of an ordinary person.

Your path can be anything, but this is the only way to be happy. And it is not necessary to become a celebrity, a star in some field, which, of course, is also good. Someone just likes to tinker in their garden, build houses, write programs, raise children. Even playing computer games, which can also bring income and become the main type of activity.

So, in my humble opinion, in order not to remain an ordinary person and live a gray life as an obligation, obeying only animal instincts, it is necessary to listen to your heart, find your way that you really like, this path is only yours, on it you have no competitors. Only you can know and follow your path.

This knowledge is somewhere there, deep in the soul, next to childhood dreams.
It is a great blessing to find, realize, and go where your heart calls you...
I think this is what the journey of journeys is all about.
