The Big Gusgarf Waterfall, also known as the Pioneer Waterfall, is located in the Varzob Gorge past the village of Gusgarf. The hike to this waterfall was quite an adventure. The first time, back in June, I went alone to Gusgarf without any idea of where it was located, relying only on oral descriptions. As it happens, I got lost but eventually stumbled upon some waterfall, apparently nameless.
The next time I went was in early October, and on the way, I met people who were headed to the Echo Waterfall, also located in Gusgarf, and decided to go with them, reasoning that the Pioneer Waterfall wouldn't disappear, and I could ask my companions for detailed directions to it. Finally, on October 10, armed with more or less accurate knowledge of the location of the Big Gusgarf Waterfall, I set off on the hike, the photos from which will be included in this review.
I'll start the story from the point where I made the wrong turn "on this hike" and got lost. This time, I was already on the right trail. The trail runs right under a tree, so it's not immediately noticeable.
And right from here, the trail begins to climb steeply, the ascent is not only steep and also protracted, so an unprepared person, like me, will not seem a little. For sure, it didn't seem a little to me, I barely made it to the top.
It is from this point that the path is clearly visible, along which I walked when I got lost.
Here is another photo from the rise.
Finally, this long-awaited top, the top is the Pionersky Pass, in the photo there is just the saddle of the pass.
Last time I was also on this Pionersky pass, but I went in this direction, where I also found a waterfall. He who seeks, he always finds something, not the fact that what is needed.
I needed to just turn left and go downstream, that is, here.
Interestingly, an incident almost happened here. Where exactly this waterfall is, I didn't know. Well, I look, it means on the trail, I think, well, somewhere there, if it really is 30 meters, then I should not miss it. And the path is well guessed...
I walked a small hump on the trail, looked to the left and was so pleased that everything was under control, I went on.
Proceeding further, I turned around again well, looked closely and then I see here you, a waterfall. I figured that with the upper waterfalls, that is, the whole cascade will be just 30 meters. That is, I did find...
I did not go straight down, but returned to the already mentioned hump and went to photograph the Great Gusgarf waterfall from above, for completeness of the picture.
This is where it begins, and as I later found out, the total length of the entire cascade is 32 meters.
There are as many as three small waterfalls, in October there is not very much water, so what you see is not particularly impressive. But it's impressive how the water made its way by making such bowls.
Then I went downstairs, here is a photo of the Big Gusgarf Falls from afar.
Here already directly near the waterfall.
A small pond formed under the waterfall, it was very warm, and I swam in it with pleasure, the place to relax is just super.
Crawled under the bottom, for a change.
I took this photo when I was leaving.
There is not enough water, autumn is outside, so it may not be very impressive in the photo, but it looks interesting live, but I think we should go again in the spring when there is a lot of water. Here is such a Big Waterfall in Gusgarf.
Thank you for your attention.
Until next time
P.S. Later I visited this waterfall in the spring.: Spring hike to waterfalls in Gusgarf, Varzob gorge, mountains of Tajikistan
